International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. This year we asked Sian Rudge of Media Plant what this day means to her and asked her to share her story of creating a successful business in Swindon.
On International Women’s day I have looked back at my career and reflected a lot on what has brought me to this point.
International Women’s day has been recognising the rights and achievements of women since 1900. I feel privileged to now be living in a time where there are many women that are at board level for international companies. These women are a constant reminder of what is possible for all young girls who have big dreams to be successful in any field that they choose.
Since leaving school with a handful of qualifications I always found myself in a male dominated workplace and then started Media Plant 15 years ago with my fellow directors. What I know for sure is that women are key to Media Plant’s success in the past and the future.
We have grown the business from a small start-up to a multimillion pound turnover business in Swindon and I honestly could not be prouder. It is very important for women to celebrate their achievements and their strength especially during these uncertain times.
I am surrounded by strong, independent women who teach me daily that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. My mother, my biggest fan has never once uttered the words to me “that’s not possible” or “you can’t do that” and for that I am eternally grateful.
Celebrate and shout about your successes, I believe there is no limit to what we, as women can achieve.
